Hugo Palmer Saturday Blog | Newmarket, Longchamp and Redcar

Check out what Coral Racing Ambassador, Hugo Palmer, has to say on his four runners on Saturday, including one at Longchamp on day one of the 2024 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe meeting who was impressive on debut last week.

14:05 Newmarket – King Of Angels & Aubergine

King Of Angels has been a busy horse throughout the year. Since he has been gelded, he has really improved. He ran a solid race at York and an also in even stronger contest than this at Doncaster. The difficulty he has got is he has to give lumps of weight away. We think coming back to 6f will suit him, as will the drying ground.

Aubergine will also be fine on the ground. She is the least experienced runner in the field. She was going nicely in the spring, but she unfortunately picked up an injury and had to have surgery. She has done well to come back from surgery in April and then win in September. I see no reason why she won’t stay, and I think she has a decent chance off a light weight.

14:50 Longchamp – One Eye Jack

It has all come about relatively quickly for him. I spoke to the owner and we decided to leave him in this race ahead of his run at Haydock. He did very well at Haydock and has come out of it in great shape, so we have decided to give it a go.

He has not been done any favours being drawn 12 of 12, but it is a race he can go well in. They clearly think a bit of Fly Half, but he has come a little short in stakes races. Mount Kilimanjaro has an Irish Guineas entry for next year, so you always have to respect Aidan O’Brien’s runners.

It is a swing at a good prize, and we keep our fingers crossed.

15:55 Redcar – Kindest Nation

She comes into this race bidding to complete a hat-trick, but this is a tough test for her. If she can get into the frame here, it will do a lot for her value. I do think there is more to come from her than we have seen. The issue is that once she hits the front, she does very little. We will hold her up for as long as possible and try to run into the placings for some nice prize money.
