HUGO PALMER: 'MAYBE A STRAIGHT 5.5F WITH A STRONG PACE WILL SUIT HIM'
Two runners on day one of the Ebor meeting, and with Roman Dragon drawn 20 of 20 and Ruby’s Angel drawn 22 of 22, our season of having no, or very little, luck with draws continues. It’s a shame York has such a track bias, it really should be something they look to rectify.
13:50 York – Roman Dragon
As for Roman Dragon, he’s up six pounds to a career high mark of 100 here after his Chester win. so he has to defy that, but he has Oisin [Murphy] back on board here and maybe a straight five and half [furlongs] with a strong pace will suit him. Around Chester he is so reliable, on straighter tracks he seems much harder to predict for some reason.
That said, he has won over five and six furlongs on the straight track in Bahrain so he can do it, but as I say, being drawn in stall 20 is probably not ideal.
17:20 York – Ruby’s Angel
I think the ground was probably too slow for her at Newmarket last time, but it was worth having a go as there was decent prize money on offer, as there is here. She’s been dropped a couple of pounds as a result of her last run and we’re sticking at six furlongs, but life won’t be easy for her from this extreme draw.
DAVID PROBERT: 'YORK IS A RACECOURSE HE SHOULD HANDLE WELL'
14:25 York – Goodwood Galaxy
Goodwood Galaxy is a progressive type who I won on first time out at Beverley. He went into that race being well thought of, and he lived up to the expectation with an excellent performance on quick ground.
Turning to his second start at Goodwood, I was not on board. However, I don’t think the course suited him in the Vintage Stakes. That said, it was not a bad run. I have spoken to Oisin Murphy, and he told me he was just a little inexperienced in the race, but he is confident he is a nice horse for the future.
York is a racecourse he should handle well. I think the Godolphin runner, Distant Storm, is the one we all need to beat. I am looking forward to getting on board my horse, and I am hopeful of a big run.
