Cheltenham Festival Market Movers | More handicap hints and a potential Supreme dark horse emerges
Trainer Sam Thomas and owner Dai Walters celebrated a major success on Saturday when they landed the Ladbrokes Trophy at Kempton with Katate Dori. The seven-year-old took advantage of bottom weight in the premier handicap contest for the Welsh duo.
Katate Dori is now 10/1 for the Ultima Handicap Chase on day one of the Cheltenham Festival. The Kempton winner also has entries in the National Hunt Challenge Cup and Kim Muir Challenge Cup, where he is 8/1 in both markets.
One of the other shining performances at Kempton came from Tripoli Flyer, who landed the Grade Two Ladbrokes Dovecote Novices’ Hurdle. It was a first success at the level for Fergal O’Brien’s runner. He did it comfortably, scoring by just over seven lengths. His next stop may now be the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle where he is 25/1 for the Festival curtain-raiser.
The juveniles were in action in the Grade Two Adonis Juvenile Hurdle on Saturday. Mambonumberfive was top of the pops in the race, enhancing his reputation. Rider Ben Jones hit all the right notes on Ben Pauling’s runner, and he is now 14/1 for the Fred Winter Juvenile Handicap Hurdle.
There were two automatic qualifiers for the Pertemps Network Final Handicap Hurdle over the weekend. Will The Wise appeared to relish the testing conditions at Navan on Sunday. He is now 6/1 for the final at Cheltenham. 24 hours earlier, J’Ai Froid was too hot for his rivals in his qualifier under a cool ride from Harry Reed at Chepstow. His odds have been slashed to 40/1.
