Cheltenham Festival Market Movers | Who stood out on Trials Day?
The former winner is bidding to regain his crown, and after two impressive performances this season, he goes into the Festival as the one to beat. Those unsatisfactory racecourse gallops at the start of the campaign seem a distance ago now.
Willie Mullins ran one of his Champion Hurdle contenders over the weekend. Anzadam beat just two rivals at Naas on Sunday to maintain his 100% record over hurdles. Although the opposition will be much tougher in March, he defeated what was in front of him comfortably, and he could prove to be many people’s each-way selection against Constitution Hill, especially with question marks about the participation of the two mares at the front end of the betting.
L'Homme Presse has a strong record at Cheltenham, and he enhanced his Gold Cup claims this season with a narrow victory over Stage Star in the Cotswold Chase. Venetia Williams’ runner is now 16/1 (from 25/1) with Coral for the Gold Cup. He finished fourth in the race in 2024, and he will no doubt have his backers again.
Arguably the most impressive winner on Trials Day at Cheltenham was East India Dock. He is now 3/1 (from 6/1) for the Triumph Hurdle. His clash with Lulamba in the juvenile race could be one of the races of the week at the Festival this year.
On Sunday, Dancing City proved why many believe he is one of the most exciting novice chasers out for Mullins’ yard. He put in a smart performance to land a Grade Three contest. He is now 4/1 (from 6/1) for the Brown Advisory Novices’ Chase, with only stablemate Ballyburn ahead of him in that market at 7/2.
Aurora Vega was one of the horses to take away from the card at Fairyhouse last Saturday. The sister of Facile Vega is 12/1 (from 25/1) for the Mares Novices’ Hurdle. There was also a mover in the Mares’ Hurdle betting on Saturday, with Jetara being trimmed to 25/1 (from 33/1). The latter beat Kateira at Doncaster. Coral customers who backed Kateira benefited from the Pipped At The Post promotion and were paid out as winners up to a stake of £10. She was one of three Pipped At The Post payouts on Saturday in what was a good day for punters.
Coral are now Non Runner Money Back (NRMB) on the five championship races (Champion Hurdle, Queen Mother Champion Chase, Stayers’ Hurdle, Ryanair Chase and Cheltenham Gold Cup) at the 2025 Cheltenham Festival.
