14:25 Newbury – Sugar Hill Babe
I’ve not ridden Sugar Hill Babe before, but she’s an experienced mare who has been running consistently well this season. She won at Nottingham in May on quick ground, so won’t mind if it quickens up even more here. We’re drawn on the wing in one, which isn’t ideal, but if there is pace alongside us, she could run well again.
15:00 Newbury – Cracking Gold
I always enjoy riding for Clive Cox, and Cracking Gold gave me a lovely spin to finish second at Glorious Goodwood last time. The time before that he won at Newmarket, and he’s another who has had a consistent season. His homework has also been great, and although he’s up three pounds for that Goodwood run, this straight seven should suit, and we should get a good tow into the race.
He's a strong traveller, and although he needs to be played quite late, he is otherwise an uncomplicated sort. I’ll look to get him some cover early on, sit off the early pace, and deliver him late, hopefully. I’m looking forward to getting the leg up on him.
16:45 Newbury – Raintown
I have ridden this fellow before, winning on him at Lingfield last year, while he’s a course and distance winner here also. He has won off 77 in the past, albeit a while ago, so he could go well off 76 if everything fell right for him.
