Coral Racing Ambassador, Hugo Palmer, previews his three runners on the first day of the July Festival at Newmarket, plus his other runner who heads to Doncaster.

16:10 Newmarket – Enamorus

She is a well-bred filly that we like. Her work has been excellent at home, and she seems to always try hard. This race can throw up some good winners, so it could be a tough starting point for her. George Boughey’s runner (Night Shining) was very expensive, and the Godolphin filly (Crimson Rose) will improve for her opening start.

The draw in stall nine is not ideal, as I never like being drawn on the wing for a debut run. We will be hoping she has a nice run, but whatever happens, she is a lovely filly for the future.

16:20 Doncaster – Boston Run

Boston Run is ready for this step up to 1m2f. Although he is only a maiden, he is a consistent horse. This is the type of race he should be competitive in. He is unlikely to be crowded at Doncaster as it is a lovely galloping track. I see no reason why he will not run a nice race.

16:45 Newmarket – Seagulls Eleven

I thought he ran well in Jersey Stakes at Royal Ascot. He was only beaten by a neck on his side of the course. If the race had been on our side, we would have been second. He finished his race well and stayed on all the way to the line over a stiff 7f. In the Guineas he was short for room, and he basically pulled himself up.

If he can switch off again like he did at Ascot, I am hopeful of another big performance, and we can start seeing why we always had a lot of belief in this horse.

17:20 Newmarket – Seagolazo

The Britannia Stakes was all such a rush for Seagolazo. He knocked his leg early in the season and we couldn’t get a prep run into him before Royal Ascot. He was fine for the race, but he just ran out of steam at the back end of the contest.

With the watering they are set to do this week, I don’t think the ground will be as fast as Royal Ascot, and that will suit him. I am sure he will take a step forward here on his second start of the campaign.
