Hugo Palmer Blog | Saturday Runners
Coral Racing Ambassador, Hugo Palmer, previews his seven runners across the cards on Saturday, including Seagulls Eleven in the Group 1 Dewhurst Stakes.
13:30 York – It Ain’t Two
She has been placed in a few stakes races but has yet to win one of these. We are hopeful she can prevail at this level. The ground should not be a problem for her at York. It will be on the soft side, but I think she will go through it fine. I expect her to be thereabouts at the finish.
14:25 Newmarket – Wolf Of Badenoch
We were disappointed with him in the Champagne Stakes. I’ve not been able to put my finger on why he ran so badly. He is back on slower ground here and I think he should be a different prospect. It is a small field, and I suspect Jamie Spencer will be at the front end of the field with him. He is in good order, and a step up to a mile may bring some improvement out of him.
15:00 Newmarket – Seagulls Eleven
He ran a brilliant race at the Curragh last time in the National Stakes, despite it not panning out well for us. He got taken on early by the Ballydoyle pacemaker, who reopposes here. I was delighted with the way he battled to the finish line.
There should be plenty of early pace in this race as The Lion In Winter made his own running in the Acomb Stakes. Seagulls Eleven has come on well for his run at the Curragh. He needs to find something on ratings with The Lion In Winter and Shadow Of Light, but he is a lovely horse and it would be no surprise if he stepped up again.
15:15 York – Seagolazo
I am not too sure how he will act on the ground, but you just don’t know until you try. If he does handle the ground, he will have an excellent chance in this race. He is in great form at home, and we could not have him in better condition.
16:10 Chelmsford – Welsh Fizz
She is a late bloomer who will be making her debut here. I would be surprised if she prevailed on her first run but whatever happens here, she will learn from the experience.
17:20 Chelmsford – He’s A Gentleman
He is drawn 10 of 13 here which is far from ideal. We were staggered by how well he ran over 1 mile and 2 and a half furlongs last time out. He is back down to a mile now and he must go there with a good chance of prevailing.
18:50 Chelmsford – Balon d’Or
It has been a good year for Balon d’Or who has been very busy. He likes to go around a bend. The draw here has been kind to him and this mark of 80 remains workable. He is another I expect to go close at Chelmsford.
