Hugo Palmer Saturday Blog | Haydock and Leicester
13:30 Leicester – Donegal Rose
Donegal Rose is a nice filly and one we hope might be one for the Chester May meeting that is so important for the yard. We haven’t been able to take her for a racecourse gallop anywhere, so she might just be a little bit green here, but I think she’s a filly who will be winning races based on what she’s shown us at home.
14:05 Leicester – Roman Dragon
One of the yard fixtures now at the age of seven, Roman Dragon has come back from a winter in Bahrain in really good form. He just didn’t get the rub of the green out there, but he proved he could go well on a straight track, he’s not just a Chester horse who needs to be going around bends, so hopefully he can go well from stall four here.
15:45 Haydock – Gold Dawn and Mr Seagull
We run a couple in this mile handicap. Gold Dawn proved to be a bit disappointing following a good effort on debut here at Haydock, so we’re taking him back there in the hope it reignites him.
Mr Seagull won his maiden at the first time of asking last summer, but after a couple of disappointing runs in Sales races in the autumn, we’ve had him gelded. He’s done very well physically as a result, and hopefully the step up to a mile will also bring about some improvement here.
