Coral Racing Ambassador, Hugo Palmer, previews his six Saturday runners across the cards at Chester & Windsor, including Stratusnine & Ruby's Angel in the 15:03 at Chester.

14:02 Chester – Stardom Glory

The hot weather isn’t stopping the horses running well and the earlier starts to some of the meetings hasn’t been an issue either, as we had a double at Newmarket on Thursday, so hopefully we can continue the good form this weekend. We’re running five at our local track, and one at Windsor, and we start close to home with Stardom Glory in the maiden.

We had the option of York for this colt as well, but that attracted a bigger field compared to the five rivals he faces here. I also felt that having had the benefit of a couple of runs, and he’s shown good speed from the gates, even if we got drawn six of six here he’d still have a decent chance.

As it is we’ve got the lowest draw of all, so that has to be an advantage. He’s a horse I’ve always liked, and while he is very much a horse for next year, it’s important to try to win the bonus that is on offer for graduates of the Tattersalls Book 1 sale. I think he has a favourite’s chance of doing so here.

15:03 Chester – Stratusnine & Ruby’s Angel

Contrasting fortunes for our pair as far as the draw is concerned, with Stratusnine nine of nine, and Ruby’s Angel in stall one. Ruby’s Angel herself proved a high draw isn’t a barrier to victory over six furlongs when winning here two runs ago, so there is hope for Stratusnine, but he is a horse who seems to get few favours from the draw.

Ruby’s Angel found it all a bit too much at York last time, it was a big field handicap and it all happened a bit too quickly for a young horse and a young jockey. She’s come out of the race super, she loves Chester, and out of stall one, she’s another who should be among the market leaders and have every chance.

16:45 Chester – Patagonia Girl

Patagonia Girl is another Chester course and distance winner, she’s drawn six of eight, which isn’t terrible over this trip. She loves fast ground, and there are thunderstorms in the forecast, so if one did hit and turned the ground softer than good, there is a chance she wouldn’t run as we know she doesn’t like soft ground. She’s a light filly with little feet and she skips off the top of decent ground.

She’s in really good form, and she loves it here, so we are keen to run, we just need the rain to stay away. She should be yet another of ours who is prominent in the betting, and I hope that reflects her chance.

17:45 Windsor – Nascent Star

Nascent Star is one of eight in this novice contest, so not a big field that should bother these two-year-olds. I thought he ran with a lot of promise on debut, he was given a lovely ride and would have learned plenty. He has improved for that run quite a lot based on his homework, so I hope it will take quite a decent performance from one of his rivals to beat him.

17:50 Chester  Condotti

By contrast to Patagonia Girl, Condotti, would appreciate any easing of the ground. If it was genuine good ground I think we would run, as we’re keen to see him run over this mile and a half trip.  Kevin Stott, who rode him last time, suggested we should step him up in trip, so we’re following that advice.

He ran well enough to finish third time, he is still a maiden but if the step up in trip works, he must have a chance. However, if we had another baking hot day, and the rain stayed away, we do know this fellow well enough now to know he wants to get his toe in at least, so we may not run him.
