Hugo Palmer Blog | Goodwood Festival Day One
Coral Racing Ambassador, Hugo Palmer, previews his two runners on day one of the Goodwood Festival this week, including Savage Mariner in the 16:45.
16.45 Goodwood – Savage Mariner
This is a week that we always look forward to, and we start the week with Savage Mariner, for owners Jim and Fitri Hay, who love to have runners, and winners, here. What happened at Ascot last month was really frustrating, he just stepped on his shoe going into the stalls and as a result of that was never able to get going in the race.
Naturally he was a little bit sore after that, so we gave him a short break but since then his work has been really pleasing, particularly his piece of work last Friday. If he can repeat what he showed me at home then on the track, then I think he can run a huge race. He’s a horse we really like, and I think he has a bright future, so I hope he can go really well here.
17.55 Goodwood – Ruby’s Angel
Ruby’s Angel hasn’t really done a lot wrong all season. I don’t think she quite stayed the seven furlongs at Newmarket last time, so we think that dropping her back to six will really help her. I also think Goodwood will suit her and she’s got winning form on quick ground, so I’m looking forward to running her in a valuable race for horses of this grade.
