15:00 Newmarket – Andesite
This is Andesite’s first runner since being gelded, and it will also be his first appearance in a handicap contest. He ran well at Chelmsford two runs back, and the form of that race has worked out nicely.
Karl Burke is a very shrewd trainer. He does not put his horses in races that he does not believe they can win. He will be carrying 8st 10lb, which is a low weight for me. I think he could run well at a decent price.
16:45 Newmarket – Elarak
We won this race with Baaeed in 2021, so it is a contest we often smart horses in. Elarak was very impressive last time at this course, scoring by five lengths. He is a colt that we like a lot, and I’m excited to ride him again.
It looks to be a strong renewal this year, as the two Godolphin runners also look smart. I think the winner of this race will go on to be a very good horse.
17:20 Newmarket – Son
He didn’t get a clear run last time at Sandown on a step up to 1m2f. Richard Hannon has opted to drop him back down to 1m. He has a bit to find on many of his rivals here, but he has got ability, as he showed when he was a two-year-old.
With a mark of just 89 now, hopefully, he is down a rating that allows him to be competitive.
