13:30 York – Milford
Milford won on soft going first time up, so this ground will hold no concerns for him. Off the back of that debut win he ran at Royal Ascot, but just found things a bit tough at that level. His last run was another good run on testing going, and he should appreciate another go at six furlongs here, so while he does have a bit to find on official ratings, Karl Burke wouldn’t be running him here if he didn’t think he could do himself justice.
14:05 York – Maghlaak
This ride in the Shadwell silks is the main reason I’m at York today. Maghlaak was a first time up winner at Goodwood at the start of the season, he’s another who goes well on soft so that’s why we’ve come here. He ran poorly last time, he didn’t have the blinkers on then so they’re back on here, and hopefully that will get him back to form.
We’re drawn in two, which is another big plus, and while this is a competitive race, with topweight Bolster perhaps the one to beat, my fellow can run well at a decent price.
17:05 York – Bodorgan
I end the day on Bodorgan, a Windsor winner three runs ago, and a gelding who has run well generally this season. Most of his best form is on a quicker surface, but he has some on good to soft, so hopefully he will cope with conditions here. A bigger concern is the draw of 18, from there we may have just take our medicine and hope for the best.
