13:50 York – Law Of The Sea
I’ve ridden this fellow on a few occasions, including on his seasonal reappearance when we finished third at Chester, but he’s not really gone on from that as you’d have hoped. He’s dropping back in trip considerably here, having raced over two miles plus for the last couple of seasons, so I’m not sure how that will suit him, but he’s got form on quick ground, and at his best from would have an each-way chance.
15:35 York – Frost At Dawn
The feature Nunthorpe Stakes is a cracker, with Asfoora and Big Evs setting a really good standard, and plenty of others in with a shout. The market has my filly as an outsider, but she set a track record when winning at Meydan in March, so she’s clearly got some ability, and the quicker the ground, the better for her.
It was probably a case of one run too many on her last start in Dubai, and while the lack of a recent run is a slight concern, we’re drawn well in 11 I think, and it would be no surprise to see her outrun her odds, particularly if the rain stays away.
16:10 York – Bint Al Daar
I’ve not ridden this filly before, but she’s in great from, with an excellent course second sandwiched between two wins. A rise of four pounds for her Wolverhampton win doesn’t look unfair, she will need another step forward here but could well be capable of it, and she looks my best chance of the day.
16:45 York – Frostmagic
This valuable maiden always attracts a strong field, and this looks no exception. Frostmagic is making his debut, but I’ve got a decent record for this trainer, and he must think plenty of this colt to start him off here, so he’s one to look forward to.
