Jim Crowley Saturday Blog | Sandown

Check out what Coral Racing Ambassador, Jim Crowley, has to say on his two rides at Sandown on Saturday afternoon.

16:10 Sandown – Bayenah

This is one of the more low key Saturdays in the calendar, and I’ve got just the two rides at Sandown, but the first of them is a filly I’ve been looking forward to riding on the track.

She’s a beautiful Shadwell homebred daughter of Dubawi who has been doing her work at home nicely, albeit we haven’t asked too many questions of her and she’s very much in the right hands to progress at the right rate.

As always with a debutant, she will learn plenty from this first day at school so to speak, her breeding says she will certainly get this seven furlongs trip well, and in time – and she’s very much one for next season – she will stay further, but for now, we’ll want her to enjoy this first racecourse experience, and while it would be no surprise to see her run well, there are a few in here with experience and that could be crucial.

16:45 Sandown – Valsharah

I haven’t ridden Valsharah before, but he ran a nice race at Windsor two runs ago, and then just found it all a bit too much for him when running in what could turn out to be a decent maiden at Glorious Goodwood.

His three runs so far have been over six furlongs and I think the extra furlong here will suit, so if he can return to his Windsor form, he could outrun his odds.
