14:45 Chepstow – Gyenyame
Gyenyame won a little beginners chase last autumn and then his jumping fell apart a little after that, so we had him checked out and sure enough there was a problem with his back, which we’ve now sorted out. He’s been schooling well and he gets in here off a nice low weight, so at a course he’s run well at before he could go well enough.
He’s co-owned by Anne Broom and this race is named after Native River, who the Brooms owned, so it’s nice for them to have a runner. We would expect him to improve for this first run of the season.
16:35 Chepstow – American Land
This fellow has been in marvellous form, winning five of his last six runs. He’s always jumped a fence well at home and we ran him in a chase at Wincanton, but he just got bumped and lost his confidence that day, so we went hurdling again.
The plan was always to go chasing again. He’s rated five pounds lower over fences than his hurdles so if he can pick up where he left off earlier in the year, he should be there or thereabouts, and he’ll love two miles around Chepstow.
17:10 Chepstow – Investment Manager
Investment Manager mixes hurdling and chasing and is consistent at both, but the problem is the handicapper knows how good he is at both and at the moment he’s got a grip on him that doesn’t make life easy for him.
