Joe Tizzard Saturday Blog | Wincanton

Coral Racing Ambassador, Joe Tizzard, gives an exclusive preview of his seven runners at Wincanton on Saturday, including Scarface in the Badger Beers Handicap Chase (15:30).

12:35 Wincanton – Fight My Fire

A big day at our local track and with the ground still quite quick, the fields are quite small, so we’ve rolled the dice with a couple of these and are running them in decent races. We’ll have to see if they’re good enough or not.

Fight My Fire won at 100/1 at Fontwell recently, that wasn’t quite the shock to us the odds suggested as he had been working nicely at home and we hoped he could leave his previous efforts behind him. He’s come out of that race well, so hopefully we’re not backing him up too quickly. Miss Altea Blue is rated 122 and is the one to beat, but there are only six running for £17,500 so it makes sense to have a go.

13:10 Wincanton – Bourbali

Bourbali is so consistent, probably too consistent for his own good as the handicapper knows exactly how good he is. He carries top weight again here, but the trip and track suit him and he can skip off the good ground. He doesn’t know how to let us down, and he won’t here, but he just may find one better handicapped than him.

13:45 Wincanton – Sweet Caryline

We are taking a bit of a punt with this mare, stepping her up in class but she won nicely at Chepstow last month and for a £40,000 race, it’s not the strongest looking. That said, she is four pounds out of the handicap and this may be a step too far but in her current form, I’d be hopeful she might nick a place.

14:23 Wincanton – Rightsotom

Rightsotom is another we might be chucking in the deep end as this is a Grade 2. He jumped well at Cheltenham last time and he’ll come on bundles for that run. We’ll ride him positively, as we did when he won at Doncaster last season, and he can handle quickish ground. We have nothing to lose by running here, and while it is a punt, we’ll have a good go.

15:30 Wincanton – Scarface

Only seven have been declared for the feature Badger Beers, but it’s a trappy looking race. We are in the dark a little bit as regards this trip for Scarface, but he’s run well over 2m5f on heavy and on this good ground we’d be hopeful he can get the trip, particularly as he travels well and seems to keep a little bit back for himself. He deserves to take his chance and if he doesn’t get home, at least we’ll find out and can plan his future accordingly.

16:05 Wincanton – Baile An Or & No Way Jay

We run two in the Bumper, and while we never have our bumper horses revved up first time out, we like them both. There wouldn’t be much between them on their homework, so I wouldn’t say jockey bookings are a factor. They’ve both had away days and while we can expect improvement from them, I’ll take first and second in either order here!
