Sean Bowen Saturday Blog | Perth
Coral Racing Ambassador, Sean Bowen, heads to Perth on Saturday for two rides. Check out his thoughts in his latest exclusive preview below!
I am looking forward to the return of the jumps programme at Perth on Saturday. With no jump racing scheduled, I managed to get away earlier this week for a holiday, which was really nice. It was good to switch off and refresh the batteries before getting back into the swing of things. When I returned, I was hit with 35C sunshine, so I think I brought the sun back with me!
It's obviously enjoyable riding when the weather is nice, but when it gets very, very hot, it can be hard work. You notice it as a jockey because it takes a lot more out of you than it would on a normal day. You have to make sure you're drinking plenty and looking after yourself, because it can be tough when you're working hard in those conditions.
Thankfully, the horses seem to handle the heat pretty well, which is the main thing. It looks like it should be a little cooler by Saturday, so hopefully the conditions will be a bit more comfortable.
14:15 Perth – Tamarind Bay
Tamarind Bay has been in great form in June and I'm really looking forwards to getting back on him.
Since switching to fences, he's really turned inside out. He won impressively last time out and although it was only a three-runner race, I thought he did it nicely.
He seems to be improving all the time, so I'm really looking forward to riding him again. Hopefully he can continue that progression at Perth.
16:40 Perth – Shantou Show
Shantou Show was a little disappointing last time but I am hoping that he can bounce back.
He did run well at Cartmel only two starts ago and if he can reproduce that sort of performance, then he'd have every chance of being thereabouts.
Hopefully he can put that last run behind him and get back to the form we know he's capable of.
