Sean Bowen Saturday Blog | Market Rasen
I have five nice rides at Market Rasen on Saturday evening, so hopefully I can come away with a few winners and get some momentum going.
17:20 Market Rasen – Post No Bills
My first ride back will be Post No Bills for Ryan Potter, and he’s a horse who has dropped quite a bit in the handicap, and this is the lowest grade of race he’s run in for some time, so that will definitely help him. The cheekpieces are back on as well which I think is a positive as he was winning in them last season, and I don’t think he’s had them on since, so hopefully they’ll sharpen him up.
It’s been a little while since he’s got properly competitive, but as I say, he’s certainly weighted to go well, so I’m hopeful he can run a bit better here than he has been doing of late.
18:20 Market Rasen – Belle Of Arndale
She’s not a horse I know an awful lot about if I’m honest, but her last two runs over hurdles have been solid efforts, so she’s coming into this in good form.
She ran here last time and seemed to go well, so she should enjoy the track, but she does go up a mile in trip here, so I suppose it’s just a question of whether she has the stamina for it, but I’m sure Adrian and the team wouldn’t try her over it if they didn’t believe she did, so hopefully she can run another good race.
18:50 Market Rasen – Buck Of Maine
He had been in really poor form coming out of bumpers, but his run last time at Stratford was much more like it, so hopefully he can build on that here. I don’t think there’s any doubt that the blinkers helped him last time, so it’s probably just a case of if they work as well a second time, but dad thinks he’s stepped forward again from that effort, so he should be capable of going close off only 1lb higher.
19:20 Market Rasen – Unwanted Attention
Unwanted Attention has been in cracking form all summer, and he actually comes back in grade slightly here, so he’ll certainly appreciate that. He won over this course and distance three starts ago, and although he hasn’t won since, they’ve probably been career-best efforts the last few runs, so he certainly hasn’t let himself down at all.
It’s nice that he can come back in grade, and it doesn’t look a great race on paper, so I’d say he’s the one they’ll all have to beat.
19:50 Market Rasen – Don Rafael
Don Rafael makes his handicap debut here, and it does look a competitive race for the grade for him to be starting life off in handicaps, so we’ll just have to see how he gets on. He did win in nice style in a maiden hurdle at Stratford last time, but I suppose it’s just a question of where we are with him off a mark of an opening mark of 102, and I think we’ll find out more about that tomorrow.
He’s up slightly in trip, which I think will suit him, so hopefully he can get competitive in what is admittedly quite a hot race.
