Sean Bowen Saturday Blog | Wetherby
Coral Racing Ambassador, Sean Bowen, gives an exclusive preview of his four rides at Wetherby on Charlie Hall Chase Day, including Strong Leader in the Grade 2 West Yorkshire Hurdle (14:22).
12:40 Wetherby – Wilstar
This looks like a hot race to begin with. Kadastral won a valuable bumper at Newbury at the back end of last season for Dan Skelton and Cave Bridge got off the mark over hurdles at the first attempt for Harry Derham.
I really like my horse. He was a little too keen first time out, we then dropped him back at Perth and he won nicely. He is one of the horses in the yard that we are really looking forward to starting the season with and if the ground remains ‘Good’, that will be perfect for him.
14:22 Wetherby – Strong Leader
Strong Leader has been a stable star for Olly Murphy. On ratings he is above his rivals but I do believe there is more to come from Potters Charm, especially after he has had a wind op.
I schooled Strong Leader yesterday and he felt in good form. I always enjoy jumping on board this horse and hopefully he can make a winning start to the campaign, just like he did last season at Newbury.
15:30 Wetherby – Go Dante
Go Dante is a horse who normally needs his first run and the ground might not be soft enough for him. However, he is a horse with a lot of ability as he showed last time out at Sandown when winning his second Imperial Cup. He is the highest rated in this race and a course and distance winner here, so I would never rule him out.
16:05 Wetherby – Wa Wa
Wa Wa has been running consistently well over hurdles. This is his first appearance over fences since joining Olly Murphy’s yard, but he does have plenty of experience in chases. It looks like an open contest, and if my lad jumps well, I see him having a great chance.
