Coral Racing Ambassador, Sean Bowen, previews his six rides at Chepstow on Saturday, including Ikarak in the Class 2 Pertemps Hurdle Qualifies at 14:32.
13:25 Chepstow – Kapal Layar
He has run consistently well in his three appearances over hurdles without getting his nose in front. He is off a mark of 106 now after going up 3lb from his Uttoxeter run last time. I think this is a winnable race for him. He is stepping up in trip now, which will help, and he has more experience than many of his rivals here.
14:32 Chepstow – Ikarak
He has been in great form this season with two victories to his name. Unfortunately, he did not take to fences between those two successes, so the plan for now is to stay over hurdles. The soft ground and stiff track will both suit him well. He is a big player in this race.
15:07 Chepstow – Indiana Dream
He was a decent horse for Willie Mullins in Ireland, but he was quite fragile, with just four runs in his whole career. It was a low-key debut for the O’Neill team at Windsor earlier this year. Connections just want to see him get back on track now and take another step forward.
15:44 Chepstow – Sao Carlos
This is a horse we have always thought a lot of, but he has not quite lived up to that expectation. He had a wind-op back in December and then produced a much better run at Warwick. We are hoping he can build on that now. I do think he is nicely handicapped, so eventually he will take advantage of his mark,
16:17 Chepstow – Bridget Mary
She has had some time off since her last run at Ffos Las where she did not enjoy the ground. I know we are due some rain ahead of this meeting but hopefully, it will not be too heavy for her. She is a straightforward mare and could run into one of the placings if all goes well.
16:52 Chepstow – Pertemps
There was very little wrong with his debut at Market Rasen where he finished third in a bumper. I really like him, as he hit the line hard in that race. He is a lovely big horse, who has a nice future, but that’s not to say we can’t prevail before then. Rebecca Curtis and Dan Skelton both have nice horses entered too, so although there are only six runners, it does look competitive.
