Sean Bowen Saturday Blog | Haydock
Coral Racing Ambassador, Sean Bowen, previews his full book of rides at Haydock on Saturday, including the well fancied Haiti Couleurs who features in the Grade 1 Betfair Chase (15:00).
12:08 Haydock – Sticktotheplan
This drop in trip will suit Sticktotheplan in this Grade Two contest as I felt 2m4f was a bit of a stretch for him last time at Chepstow, but his class got him through. We are taking the hood off now and going back to 2m. Masked Man looks to be our biggest threat, as he was impressive on his last outing at Chepstow, but I really like my horse and I think he has a great chance.
12:40 Haydock – Gardener
Gardener is a horse who can take a chance with his jumping. He hasn’t run over fences for a while, but he is capable on his day. The handicapper has made life a little easier for him, but he does need to bounce back to his best form to score here.
13:15 Haydock – The Four Sixes
The Four Sixes finished last season in good form over hurdles and he has a victory to his name over fences in the latest campaign. He is back over hurdles today and I think Haydock will suit him as he should be able to get into a nice rhythm from the front end of the field. We have top weight here, but with the form he is in, I'm expecting another big run.
13:50 Haydock – Butch
Butch had a few training issues last season, so he didn’t feature much and it really is great to have him back on track. We are hoping for a nice run around, finishing his race off, which will then set him up for a good season ahead.
14:25 Haydock – Hartington
Joe Tizzard’s horses are in excellent form at the moment, so this is a great ride to pick up. He has no weight on his back and this step up in trip should suit. He was a winner at Carlisle on his last start, and he hasn’t gone up the ratings much for that. It is a competitive-looking race, but I’d like to think Hartington will be in the mix.
15:00 Haydock – Haiti Couleurs
I am very excited to get back on board Haiti Couleurs and he deserves his place in this Grade One field as he has been excellent over the last 12 months. We are taking on Grey Dawning which will be a tough task, as he ran well in this race last year finishing second behind Royale Pagaille.
Haiti Couleurs’ prep run for this went much better than we expected, as he was able to win off top weight in a handicap hurdle at Newbury. This will be his toughest test yet, but we are excited to see what he can do against some of the best 3m chasers in the country. If he puts in a big performance here, I am sure the Cheltenham Gold Cup will be on the minds of his connections.
15:35 Haydock – Wa Wa
I thought Wa Wa’s run at Wetherby last time was a good one. It was his first appearance over fences in a long time and he remains off the same mark as that run. He has plenty of experience as a chaser, Olly Murphy is happy with him and we are expecting a good performance.
