Sean Bowen Saturday Blog | Coral Gold Cup Day
12:30 Newbury – Booster Bob
Booster Bob was a winner around Newbury last season. He is a good horse on his day, and if he turns up on his best form, he will have a great chance. The ground is currently ‘Good to Soft’, which is ok for him. If they do get any rain, it will obviously help his cause as he likes cut in the ground.
13:05 Newbury – Burncourt Boy
Burncourt Boy needs to improve from what he showed on his debut under rules at Carlisle. He jumped well in that race, but then got tired in the closing stages. I would expect him to be much fitter for this assignment.
13:40 Newbury – Dominic’s Fault
The track and trip should both suit Dominic’s Fault. He is well capable, but he is entitled to need this run as it’s his first start since January. If he is ready to go, he will be thereabouts at the finish.
14:15 Newbury – Indeevar Bleu
I am really looking forward to riding Indeevar Bleu. He is a seven-year-old and is coming up against four-year-olds here. He has had training issues in the past, so he hasn’t featured that often, but he is fit and ready to go again. I think he has a good chance in this race.
14:55 Newbury – Resplendent Grey
Resplendent Grey’s prep run for the Coral Gold Cup could not have gone any better at Carlisle in the Colin Parker. We did not expect to go there and win, but he produced another huge performance. He is a horse who has grown up and improved considerably over the last 12 months. We could not have him any better ahead of this race.
The Coral Gold Cup is a huge race on the National Hunt calendar. It would be fantastic to win it for the first time. These are the sort of races you get excited about as a jockey, and I am thankful to be heading to Newbury with a big chance.
15:35 Newbury – Abingworth
Abingworth has no weight on his back here, but he will need to step up on what he has been doing recently. He ran ok around Wincanton last time. James Owen always has his horses in good shape, so hopefully he can produce a big run to end the afternoon.
