Raceday LIVE Preview
The club's Hugo Palmer-trained two-year-old colt was last seen finishing an agonising 2nd over course and distance on just his third start for the club. After travelling well, he was caught on his heels a little as they entered the final couple of furlongs but stayed on strongly to just get denied in a head-bobbing finish with the Tim Easterby gelding, Monks Dream.

Straight after that race, Hugo was certain on bringing him back to Newcastle for a similar contest in the hope that he could go one step better and get his first win for the club.
Jason Hart was in the saddle last time out, but he's got duties in Hong Kong this weekend with Highfield Princess in the Group 1 Longines Hong Kong Sprint at Sha Tin, so Hugo has booked another regular rider for the Manor House team in Ross Coakley to do the steering this evening.
Ross has ridden 21 winners from 121 rides for Hugo over the past five years, winning just short of £190,000 in prize money in the process. His record so far this year at Newcastle at the all-weather track stands at three wins from 10 rides, plus five placed efforts.
Raceday message from Hugo Palmer
"Cast No Shadow returns to the track today and I have been extremely happy with him since his narrow second at Newcastle last time. I hope he will have improved and come on again and he looks to have a solid chance this evening.
Tom Clover’s Photosynthesis won in Ireland and carries a penalty for that, so hopefully that will give us a decent chance of beating him.
This is a stronger race than the one we were second in, but I feel that our horse is improving. Fingers crossed he can get off the mark today."
Prize money
Today's Class 5 contest is worth £6,600 in total, with the winner set to scoop £3,564 for their lucky owners.
2nd place: £1,673.10 | 3rd place: £836.88 | 4th place: £418.44
As part of the Owner for the Day competitions we launch here on the Coral Racing Club website once one of the club's horses has been entered in a race, each of the 10 lucky winners who get the chance to attend as an owner also get to take home an equal 10% split of any prize money won.
TODAY'S OPPOSITION
- Sports Coach finished 3rd behind Cast No Shadow at Newcastle on his debut for Karl Burke. Despite showing signs of greenness first time out, he no doubt learned plenty that day which should put him in good stead for today's rematch and is likely to be a real danger.
- Photosynthesis recently moved yards from Ireland to Newmarket to join Tom Clover and is the only previous winner in the field, but this will be his first attempt over the minimum trip of 5f.
- El Bufalo makes his debut for South African trainer Dylan Cunha who is having a fantastic year so far, and despite him not being known for two-year-old winners, he's one to keep an eye on following plenty of market support.
Racing Post Spotlight Verdict
A market move for any of the newcomers should be noted, but this may be between old rivals Cast No Shadow and SPORTS COACH.
The former came out a length to the good when they were second and third respectively over C&D last month, but he was having his third outing whereas the latter was making his debut. With the run under his belt, there must be a good chance he can reverse the form. Navan winner Photosynthesis is also respected on his debut for Tom Clover. [David Bellingham]
