Star Performer of the Weekend

The build up to the Derby meeting at Epsom was in full swing this weekend following Trials Day at Lingfield on Saturday, plus there was a competitive card over at Ascot for their Victoria Cup meeting.

The question is, who was your Star Performer of the Weekend and why?

In the Oaks Trial, You Got To Me (7/2) made all of the running in the race and streaked clear as they turned for home for trainer Ralph Beckett, but she had to dig deep in the final stages to fend off the challenges from Rubies Are Red and favourite, Danielle.

Off the back of that success, You Got To Me was shortened from 40/1 to 12/1 for the Epsom Oaks.

The Derby Trial was up next, and Ambiente Friend (8/1) took the spoils in some style following his seasonal reappearance at Newmarket last month, eventually being eased down towards the finish to beat the short-priced favourite and Aidan O'Brien-trained, Illinois, by four and a half lengths. 

The James Fanshawe-trained three-year-old colt was shortened from a staggering 100/1 to as short as 8/1 for this year's renewal of the Epsom Derby following that win.

At Ascot, The Wizard Of Eye (7/1) was subject to strong support in the market all morning on Saturday and he stayed on strongly to get up by a head in the Victoria Cup on stable debut for Charlie Fellowes. Another notable performance on the card was Warda Jamila's (11/4) comfortable victory on handicap debut in the Fillies' Handicap late in the day. Oisin Murphy had her prominent throughout before pressing the button and taking a clear lead two lengths out.

This Poll is only available to members of the Coral Racing Club who are over 18 years of age and who are not self-excluded from gambling with Coral, Ladbrokes or any other brand operated by Entain plc or are not self-excluded via any National Self-Exclusion scheme. 4. Employees of the Promoter, any agency or other persons directly or indirectly connected with the Promoter or any such person’s agents or members of their families or households, are not eligible to submit an entry for this Poll or to be nominated.

HOW TO PARTICIPATE

5. To participate, Entrants must:

a. access the Poll page;

b. click “TELL US HERE”;

c. type a name in the text box entry form describing to us who their Star Performer of the Weekend was and why; and

d. click “SUBMIT” to confirm their entry.

6. The Star Performer of the Weekend should be a horse.

7. Only one entry permitted per person.

8. Entries must be submitted by the end of the Promotional Period. After this date no further entries will be accepted.

9. The submission, first name and county of Entrants’ may be published on the Coral Racing Club website and/or on Coral’s Twitter (X) Account @Coral within 7 days of the Poll closing. Should an Entrant not want to have their first name and/or county published, they should notify the Promoter as soon as possible at dataprotection@entaingroup.com.

USE OF INFORMATION

10. Entrants have the right to request access, rectification, cancellation and opposition of data they have submitted by contacting dataprotection@entaingroup.com.

11. The Promoter will use all personal data in accordance with their privacy policy and the relevant data protection legislation.

13. The Promoter reserves the right to change, end or restrict an Entrant r’s access to the Poll, if required for legal and/or regulatory reasons including where necessary to prevent unlawful behaviour.
