Star Performer of the Weekend

It was another action-packed weekend of racing with Group 1 action at Newbury on Saturday where the Lockinge Stakes took centre stage at the Berkshire track. On top of that, we had the London Gold Cup Handicap and the Group 3 Aston Park Stakes on the same card.

The question is, who was your Star Performer of the Weekend and why?

The Group 3 Aston Park Stakes opened the card on Lockinge day and went the way of Middle Earth (100/30) for the John & Thady Gosden team which was an impressive performance given he hadn't been seen since last winning at Ascot in October last year. The Listed Carnarvon Stakes followed that, and Elite Status (13/2) returned with a bang to beat favourite Relief Rally with relative ease, and that performance saw his price slashed from 33/1 to 6/1 for the Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot.

The feature contest of the day, the Group 1 Lockinge Stakes was celebrated by the Cheveley Park team, but not with the horse most might have expected to win. Favourite, Inspiral, disappointed and only managed a distant fourth place, meanwhile their second string runner, Audience (22/1) couldn't be stopped following a power packed front-running ride under Robert Havlin. That result saw Inspiral drift out to 4/1 (was 5/2) for the Queen Anne Stakes at Royal Ascot next month, whereas his stable mate Audience shortened to 10/1 (was 50/1).
