Star Performer of the Weekend
This weekend we got to witness the Irish Oaks at the Curragh, the Summer Hurdle and Plate from Market Rasen as well as Newbury's Super Sprint card.
The question is, who was your Star Performer of the Weekend and why?
In the Group 2 Sapphire Stakes at the Curragh, even money favourite Believing won by a clear distance for George Boughey. The filly has moved in from 5/1 to 7/2 joint favourite for the King George Qatar Stakes at Glorious Goodwood as a result, and that looks to be her next outing following this weekend's success.
Another British raider won the day's feature race at the Curragh, as Ralph Beckett and Hector Crouch teamed up with You Got To Me to win the Irish Oaks with a strong finish, holding off Content who was the 3/1 favourite for Aidan O'Brien. Following that, Ryan Moore put in a spectacular ride on Tower Of London in the Curragh Cup. The Aidan O'Brien-trained colt was as many as 15 lengths down at the two furlong pole before running on to win by over a length. Tower Of London has since moved into 8/1 (was 10/1) for the Goodwood Cup.
Over at Market Rasen, Fergal O'Brien and Jonathan Burke teamed up with Castel Gandolfo to win the Summer Hurdle. The seven-year-old kept on well to hold off 7/2 favourite Kihava, going on to win by half a length. Immediately following that, Sure Touch put in a game performance to hold off Soul Icon by a neck to win the Summer Plate.
Finally, at Newbury, the Super Sprint Stakes took centre stage and was won by Caburn for trainer Jack Jones. The two-year-old colt ran on well having been in midfield for most of the race before staying on well inside the final furlong and just getting his nose in front on the line to win by a neck.
