Star Performer of the Weekend
The question is, who was your Star Performer of the Weekend and why?
Glorious Goodwood's final day kicked off with the Group 3 Glorious Stakes, in which Al Aasy emerged triumphant. Coral Ambassador Jim Crowley put in a fantastic ride on the gelding after being stuck up the far rail with nowhere to go until the final furlong, when he managed to thread the eye of a needle and go on to win by a length. Later in the day, Term Of Endearment kept on well to win the Group 2 Lillie Langtry Stakes. Henry De Bromhead's mare was positioned nicely on the outside in the prominent spot before making up some places in the final half mile. She led from the furlong pole and never faced a challenge from there on out. The five-year-old could be heading to the Curragh next for their Group 3 Irish St Leger Trial, and she also holds an entry for the Irish St Leger too.
There was a shock in the feature contest of the day, the Coral Stewards' Cup, as 40/1 shot Get It did indeed get it by never looking back after bursting from the stalls and charging home inside the final furlong up on the near side rail to land the big prize pot of over £125,000 for local trainer George Baker.
Over in Ireland on the penultimate day of the Galway Festival, The Wallpark claimed the spoils in the day's big race, a Listed Handicap Hurdle. Gordon Elliott's six-year-old gelding stormed home after the final flight to overturn So Scottish in the dying stages of the race.
The Sunday Series resumed a day later, with Haydock hosting the valuable card. The Class 2 Handicap was the richest race on the day, worth almost £40,000 to the winner. Jer Batt came out on top for the David and Nicola Barron team who was always near the front of the field in the contest, and battled hard to keep American Affair at bay inside the final furlong.
