Star Performer of the Weekend

The Coral-Eclipse Meeting at Sandown was the highlight of this weekend's racing, and the card didn't disappoint with some standout performances. 

Swindon opened the card with a game performance in a seven furlong handicap, making all of the running and staying on when pressured by favourite Spanish Blaze. In the Group 3 Coral Charge, Makarova kept on best to win well from Purosangue back in second, whilst highly regarded former Group 1 winner Live In The Dream finished a disappointing fourth, three lengths behind.

Spiritual provided the biggest shock on the card, winning the Listed Coral Distaff by over a length at a SP of 25/1. John and Thady Gosden's filly made all, and kept on well when faced with a challenge, to beat Indelible in second and Royal Ascot winner Soprano, who finished third.

The feature race, the Coral-Eclipse, followed this and Aidan O'Brien's Derby winning City Of Troy went off at a very short 1/4 to record his second Group 1 victory of the season. Despite edging right when asked for more by Ryan Moore, the three-year-old kept on to win by a length over Al Riffa in second. 

Haydock's Old Newton Cup card was cut short due to unsafe conditions, but we were treated to a quality performance by Queen Of The Pride in the Group 2 Lancashire Oaks before hand. Oisin Murphy rode the John and Thady Gosden-trained filly at the back of the field before making his move around two furlongs out. Favourite, Tiffany, finished three lengths behind in second, but didn't clearly struggled with the underfoot conditions, highlighted by a slip on the home turn.

4. Employees of the Promoter, any agency or other persons directly or indirectly connected with the Promoter or any such person’s agents or members of their families or households, are not eligible to submit an entry for this Poll or to be nominated.

HOW TO PARTICIPATE

5. To participate, Entrants must:

a. access the Poll page;

b. click “TELL US HERE”;

c. type a name in the text box entry form describing to us who their Star Performer of the Weekend was and why; and

d. click “SUBMIT” to confirm their entry.

6. The Star Performer of the Weekend should be a horse.

7. Only one entry permitted per person.

8. Entries must be submitted by the end of the Promotional Period. After this date no further entries will be accepted.

9. The submission, first name and county of Entrants’ may be published on the Coral Racing Club website and/or on Coral’s Twitter (X) Account @Coral within 7 days of the Poll closing. Should an Entrant not want to have their first name and/or county published, they should notify the Promoter as soon as possible at dataprotection@entaingroup.com.

USE OF INFORMATION

10. Entrants have the right to request access, rectification, cancellation and opposition of data they have submitted by contacting dataprotection@entaingroup.com.

11. The Promoter will use all personal data in accordance with their privacy policy and the relevant data protection legislation.
