Saturday's cards at Kempton had three Grade 2 contests in a row, before the feature Premier Handicap, The Coral Trophy. The first of the Grade 2 contests was the Adonis, where Kalif Du Berlais, battled to victory over Givemefive, despite edging to the right quite heavily in the run-in. The Pendil was up next and it was another favourite that took the victory, with Blow Your Wad producing an excellent staying performance to outlast Tahmuras when challenged towards the end of the race. Lump Sum bounced back nicely from his defeat to Jeriko Du Reponet at Doncaster last time out, after being held up at the back of the field before making his move to the front, three hurdles from the finish. He went well clear after the last and wasn't challenged thereon after.
Anglers Crag took victory in the feature race at Newcastle, The Eider Chase. The race was slowly run, as to be expected given the conditions across the UK recently, and Brian Ellison's gelding dealt with the heavy going the best. Even after making a large error at the penultimate fence, the nine-year-old found enough in the tank to battle back and claim victory by a neck.
Elsewhere, Military Order put in a fantastic performance to win the Winter Derby at Southwell, over short priced favourite, Lord North and Ferny Hollow produced a sensational run on his comeback from a layoff of over two years.
