We’re excited to report that your Coral Racing Club star, Annie Mc, has been entered for the Listed Houghton Mares’ Chase at Carlisle Racecourse on Sunday.

There were eight mares entered for the race including her old rival Zambella, and the Gordon Elliott trained Riviere d’Etel. The two-and-a-half-mile chase is scheduled for 2:00pm, and the going is currently being described as Soft (Heavy in places) which is perfect for our mare. We spoke to trainer Jonjo O’Neill immediately after entries closed and he told us:

“Annie Mc is in great form. She’s as fit as we can get her but as we know she does take a race every year to put her spot on. She’s been schooling well; she’s been doing everything brilliantly really. We’re exactly where we want to be with her. I’m very happy.”

“If the ground is very soft, that’s the only thing to consider, as it just might take a bit out of her fitness-wise on her first run. But that’s fine as we know she always steps forward and improves for her first run.”

“I’m really looking forward to running her and seeing how she gets on. Jonjo Junior is excited to be back on the track with her too. So, it’s all systems go.”

All being well, Annie Mc will be declared for the race by 10:00am on Friday, with Jonjo O’Neill Junior on board, and at that stage we will know who she will be racing against.
