Not our night — Plenty more to come from Aspire To Glory
It was a frustrating evening at Wolverhampton for our much-loved Aspire To Glory, whose latest outing was sadly a world away from the thrilling victory he'd delivered at the same track just a fortnight earlier.
Racing has a habit of keeping us humble and Tuesday evening was certainly one of those occasions. Returning to Wolverhampton on the back of that gutsy recent success, Aspire To Glory had every reason to put up another bold performance. Unfortunately, things didn't quite unfold as we'd hoped. Our boy found himself committed earlier than ideal and with plenty of racing still ahead of him, those precious reserves of energy were being called upon sooner than we would have liked.
For a horse who has made a habit of digging deep when it matters most, it was particularly frustrating to watch those early exertions begin to take their toll. As the field swept towards home, Aspire To Glory had little left in reserve and gradually slipped back through the pack. It certainly wasn't the Aspire To Glory we've come to know and love.
One thing seven career victories have taught us is that this horse has an enormous heart. He's a battler, a character and a wonderfully honest little racehorse who has given Coral Racing Club members some unforgettable moments. Tuesday simply wasn't his night. Sometimes racing doesn't follow the script. The timing isn't quite right, the race doesn't unfold in your favour and even the most willing of horses can find themselves with an uphill battle.
What we do know is that one disappointing evening doesn't define a horse with Aspire To Glory's record. The ability hasn't disappeared. The fighting spirit hasn't gone anywhere and there's absolutely no reason to lose faith in a horse who has already given us so much to celebrate.
Our boy has bounced back before and we certainly wouldn't bet against him doing it again. Keep your chin up, Aspire To Glory. We know there's plenty more fight in you yet!
