Cast No Shadow has been given the green light for Southwell on Thursday after being declared for his first start of the year by the Hugo Palmer team in the Class 6 Apprentice Handicap (13:05) over five furlongs.

After struggling to make an impression in his two runs in November, Cast No Shadow was given a short break over the festive period and has since been dropped 6lbs in the handicap to a mark of 63. As a result, Hugo Palmer has been keen to find him a suitable 0-65 contest which will be the lowest grade he's featured in so far in his career.

He did have an entry at Newcastle on Tuesday, but Hugo has opted to send him to Southwell where he's only featured once before and was beaten by a short-head in a photo finish.
