'We could now give him a proper break' – Hugo Palmer gives honest review of Cast No Shadow's recent effort at Newcastle

11 Dec 2024
I was disappointed with Cast No Shadow’s last run, he was back in the grade he’s been competitive in before, and we know how well he’s run over Newcastle’s five furlongs previously, so I was hopeful he would run a big race, but unfortunately that wasn't the case.

The first thought following a performance that disappointing is that the horse has a physical issue. He was reportedly a little bit stiff after the race, but he cooled down OK, and was moving absolutely fine the next day, so while it’s possible he was feeling something during the race that stopped him, nothing has come to light to suggest that was the case, and we might just be clutching at straws.

With nothing obviously physically wrong with him, I really don’t have an explanation for that run, and nor did Jason Hart, who knows him well enough.

We could now give him a proper break, as we have kept him quite busy for a while now, and that can freshen a horse up, so we’ll have a chat with the team and let you all know what the plan is.
