All-weather target for Cast No Shadow – latest update from Hugo Palmer
We’ve decided to skip Windsor on Monday with Cast No Shadow as it just looks like the ground will be too testing for him, and I didn’t think he particularly enjoyed the soft ground at Ripon on his debut back in July.
It’s already very testing down there at the moment, and with more rain forecast over the weekend, it is likely to be very soft ground there if they go ahead at all. We’ve given him an entry for the maiden at Southwell on Thursday which is a Class 5 over five furlongs, and I think that will be a much more suitable race for him rather than trying to run him on the turf whilst conditions are the way they are.
We’re really happy with him at home at the moment, and he seems to be fully over the sore shins that have held him back in recent months, so we are really looking forward to cracking on with him now. He’s been moving well at home, and he seems to be in really good form, so hopefully he’ll have learnt plenty from that debut effort at Ripon, and he can put that experience to good use on his second start.
We’ll monitor the Southwell race and keep everybody updated, but all being well we can hopefully look forward to seeing him back on the track on Thursday afternoon.
