Cast No Shadow: Outclassed in competitive contest at Newcastle but should have plenty more winning chances to come

The club's three-year-old made a return to Newcastle yesterday evening as he chased his third win at Gosforth Park since the beginning of March.
We knew going into the race it was going to be a tough task as it was the first time he came up against Class 3 company, but that didn't seem to faze him at all in the early stages as he showed his usual blistering early pace without Jason Hart barely having to move a muscle.
Cast No Shadow was still at the head of proceedings as they entered the final two furlongs, but when Jason Hart asked for more, our gelding couldn't quite sustain his efforts and the pair were just outclassed by some of the much more experienced rivals, including the eventual winner for Julie Camacho, Cover Point.
In the end, the margin was only five and a half lengths between the winner and Cast No Shadow, who came home in 10th place (14 ran), and overall there were still plenty of positives to take from the run.
Following the race, we caught up with jockey Jason Hart to get his views which you can watch at the top of the article.
Hugo Palmer gives his verdict on Cast No Shadow's latest performance
"We went into the race knowing it was the deepest race quality-wise Cast No Shadow had encountered, and in the context of that, to be beaten 5 ½ lengths shouldn’t be regarded as disappointing. He showed his usual, strong early pace, and Jason [Hart] was pleased with the overall performance in such a competitive race.
The handicapper should drop him a couple of pounds for that run, which will only help his future chances, and what I do like about him is that, given the right circumstances, such as this straight five at Newcastle, he always seems to try his best.
If we can keep him in good form, I’m sure we can find him more winning chances."
