WATCH: Cheltenham Festival Memorable Moment – Number 2
Bristol De Mai, Monet's Garden, Neptune Collonges and One Man to name a few. Are we missing an obvious one?
This memorable moment was sent in by Kevin from Norfolk.
Desert Orchid in the 1989 Gold Cup. My first ever day at the festival as a 21-year-old. Racing almost called off due to awful weather including snow, but amongst the white came the brilliant grey. The nation's favourite horse won a thrilling race.
I remember grown men in tears, hats being thrown in the air and strangers hugging. It gave me the racing bug that I have never lost. An amazing day only spoilt by the fact I backed Yahoo who came 2nd. 70,000 people cheering Dessie.
But I appreciate the brilliance and love the racegoer has for our hero horses and that far outweighs any bets.
Thanks Dessie – I will always love racing thanks to you, and now as a retired man I have shares in two racehorses of my own thanks to that day.
Thank you, Kevin – from everyone at the Coral Racing Club – for sharing your historical Cheltenham Festival moment with us.
