'I'm sure he's a winner in waiting' – Joe Tizzard full of praise for Diamond Days following handicap debut over hurdles
He travelled into the race strongly, and my first reaction watching it was slight disappointment that he didn’t go on to win, but watching it back, and talking to Brendan [Powell], it was a very promising run on ground that would have been as testing as he’d have wanted.
We have to remember he’s still a young horse, and when you consider it all happened too quickly for him on his bumper debut at Wincanton, then he ran no race at Fontwell, he’s still a very inexperienced horse, and I am certain what we saw at Lingfield was just the start, and there will be plenty more improvement to come.
The handicapper put him up two pounds for the Lingfield run, which we could have done without, but it’s what they do I guess! If we can find the right race, on better ground, as that should be a big help, I’m sure he’s a winner in waiting. He came out of the race in good order, so all being well, we’ll look for something in the next couple of weeks.
