Joe Tizzard and his team at Venn Farm have been putting Diamond Days through his paces on the gallops at home as he continues to build towards his first competitive start, which is likely to be in the autumn.

Our recent National Hunt recruit is out of the sire Diamond Boy, who has produced Grade 1 winners L'Homme Presse and Impaire Et Passe amongst others, and he has been working well at home over the past four weeks.

Joe provided us with this update on Diamond Days when we caught up with him this morning:

"Diamond Days has summered very well. He had a few months in the field, as most National Hunt horses do in the summer, and during that time he has grown, strengthened up and he has a lovely coat on him.

He came back into training again in the second week of July. We did a few weeks of road work with him and then last week we did some cantering with him. I am very happy with all the work he has done.

Not only do we think he has matured physically, but also mentally. He has grown up and settled down now, so that will stand him well when he does go to the racecourse.

When we did a couple of racecourse gallops with him last spring, he was going as well as any of our four-year-olds. We obviously don’t want to rush him, so we will target a bumper race around October depending on the ground.

How he runs in that will tell us where we then go with him. He has already done plenty of schooling over hurdles, and he has jumped well, so we would have no issues fast-tracking him to hurdles."
