Jim Crowley Newmarket Preview: I’d expect her to take a big step forward

13 Oct 2023
Coral Racing Ambassador, Jim Crowley, gives an exclusive preview of his three rides at Newmarket on Friday.

13:50 Newmarket – Miaharris

Miaharris is a filly I like a lot who I won on first time out at Sandown in July, and I was really impressed with her that day. I couldn’t ride her on her next start at Newbury, but I thought she did really well to win as she came from an uncompromising position that day.

I think you can completely discount her run at Salisbury last time when she just didn’t give her running for whatever reason, but she’s definitely not one I’d be in a rush to write off. I don’t know how much rain Newmarket are expecting, but she’s a nice moving filly who should go on top of the ground, so I’d he hoping it stays on the quicker side of good for her. She’s not short of speed either, so I think she’ll be very happy back at 5f, and I’m hopeful she can leave that last run behind and return to the form of her Newbury win.

17:20 Newmarket – Get The Music On

She’s not a filly I’ve ridden before, but she’s had a run in a race where quite a few are making their racecourse debut, so hopefully she can put that experience to good use. She ran really well to finish second at Lingfield on her first start, and the winner was well-backed that day, so it was probably quite a nice performance from Get The Music On. The third has come out and won well at Newcastle since too, so it looks like a race that could have some substance to the form.

I’d expect her to take a big step forward from that run, so I’m really looking forward to riding her and I’d say she has a good chance.

17:55 Newmarket – Mukaddamah

She’s a decent filly Mukaddamah, and even though she hasn’t won this year, she’s ran some nice races in defeat. I thought she ran a really good race to finish second at Yarmouth last time when coming from a long way back, and the winner was impressive that day, so she probably bumped into a good one there.

She’s tried a few different trips, but she’s by New Approach, so on pedigree the mile and a quarter looks ideal for her, and her best runs this year have come over this trip. She’s due to win one of these, so although she’s 16-1 at the time of writing, I’d be confident she’s capable of outrunning her odds.
