Jim Crowley Chester Cup Preview: Soft ground will suit and I expect him to go close
13:30 Chester – Revich
I think Revich will run a big race here. He ran well at Newbury last month in the Spring Cup, finishing third of 10 runners. He made the running that day, which wasn’t ideal, as he’d much prefer to be off a lead.
The soft ground here will suit him, he is drawn reasonably well, he likes Chester, and I expect him to go close.
14:40 Chester – Mujtaba
Mujtaba is a smart horse who loves soft ground. He was really progressive last year, winning at Doncaster and Newbury.
He is stepping up to Group company with Point Lonsdale to beat. He did disappoint at this meeting 12 months ago, and we don’t know why, but I am not too concerned about that as he is a good horse, and I am really looking forward to riding him.
15:15 Chester – Reshoun
The Chester Cup has been a lucky race for me. I have won it twice, with wins coming on Bulwark (2008) and Il de Re (2012).
My horse this year, Reshoun, is a decent horse, but he is nine years old now. He is a former Royal Ascot winner and I have won a stack of races on him.
He's very ground versatile having prevailed on ‘Soft’, ‘Heavy’ and ‘Good To Firm’ ground, but he has got it to do on the figures against some of the others in the field.
However, he is a strong stayer, and if he got the run of the race, he could run well at a big price and get into the placings.

16:55 Chester – Zinc White
I don’t know too much about Zinc White. It is his first start since 2021, and his last appearance was over hurdles. He won his last two starts on the Flat when he was with Ralph Beckett on soft ground.
We have a wide draw, which isn’t ideal, but I'm sure I will find out a lot more about this horse as we are going around the course.
