Jim Crowley Royal Ascot day two preview: She's got the quality to win a race like this
15:05 Royal Ascot – Mukaddamah
Mukaddamah is running in a handicap for the first time and she’s also done a lot of her racing over further than this mile trip, so we’re hoping a drop in trip and class will help her get back on track. She’s got the quality to win a race like this, and she’s been working well at home.
She’s also drawn well here, being low is a plus, so there are reasons to be positive, particularly if the cheekpieces can bring about some improvement as well. I definitely wouldn’t be writing this filly off, this is a big field but she’s an each way price.
16:20 Royal Ascot – Mostahdaf
Mostahdaf has run at the last two Royal meetings, finishing a good second to Broome in last year’s Hardwicke. We won a big prize in Saudi Arabia in the winter, and he then ran well to finish fourth in the Sheema Classic. We’re back in trip to ten furlongs here and I think that will suit him, a fast run mile and a half just stretches his stamina, that’s certainly how it felt in Dubai.
As you’d expect, this is a proper Group One, with a Derby winner in Adayar and top level winners like Luxembourg and Bay Bridge lining up. I’m under no illusions about the task we face but I do think this is my fellow’s best trip and while I’m not saying I think we’ll win, I do think he can run a big race.
17:00 Royal Ascot - Wanees
I teamed up with Charlie Hills to win the Hunt Cup for Shadwell on Afaak four years ago, and this fellow will be a similar price here, that’s where the similarities end really though. He was decent last season, winning at Sandown and Haydock, but has disappointed in two runs this year.
We’ve put the blinkers on him in the hope it sharpens him up and if they do this mile trip is perfect for him, so we’re not without a place chance if he returns to his best form.
