Jim Crowley York Preview: I hope I've made the right choice
York 14:25 – Fakhama
After my trip to Salisbury I’m back to York for the final day of their Dante meeting for three rides. I start on Fakhama, a half-sister to Mujtaba who was a winner for us in recent years. She was a winner on debut at Newbury last month, and I expect her to come forward for that run.
This looks a really strong listed race, with plenty of winners in it, and as a result my filly is a decent price. Queen For You and Silver Lady dominate the betting, however Fakhama couldn’t have done any more than she did at Newbury. She’s a gorgeous filly, and I’m hoping for a big run.
York 16:10 – Kathab
I had the choice in this race, between Kathab and Mostabshir. While I’ve gone for the former, it wasn’t a straightforward decision as the latter was a winner last year and ran an okay race in the Craven. However, as a result of his 2-y-o victory he does have to give six pounds to the rest of the field here, which won’t make life easy for him.
Kathab finished second to Passenger on his debut last month and that one was supplemented into the Dante [finished third], so is clearly held in high regard.
The third horse home that day, New Business, reopposes us here, while Ziryab ran an eye-catching race on debut, so this could be an above average contest, but I hope I’ve made the right choice. I like my fellow a lot, and he should go well here.
York 17:15 – Kuwait City
My final ride is Kuwait City for trainer John Butler, a particularly shrewd operator. He finished down the field at Goodwood earlier this month, which was his first run since being gelded, so there are reasons to hope he could improve from that run here.
