Katalyst showing improvement in her work at home as Chris Grassick outlines her next target

04 Sep 2025
Katalyst has shown some great improvement, and maturity, in her work at home since making her debut at Chepstow last month.

Compared to how Katalyst ran on her debut, and even some of her work in the build-up to that race, this gallop was far more pleasing. You can see in the video below that she wasn't swishing her tail at all and keeping up with Starproof, who is a solid five-year-old sprinter.

Katalyst can tend to not finish her gallops as strongly when another horse comes upside her towards the end of the work, so we're leaving the cheekpieces on to make sure she stays interested at the tail end of her exercise. She does seem to be concentrating a lot more now and we're certainly pleased that she's not swishing her tail whilst galloping anymore.

There's a race at Kempton over six furlongs on that we're looking at for her on Monday 15th September, but we'll gallop her at least a couple more times before that just to make sure that she's fully prepared for her next run. We'll certainly keep an eye out for anything else that might suit her in the near future, but with all the rain that we've had recently our thinking is that the all-weather will be better than properly soft ground for her next outing.

We'll keep you updated if there are any other dates out there for Katalyst, but the preliminary aim is Kempton in two weeks time.
