Phoenix Of Dreams given opening handicap mark as the Quinns plan his next destination
He’s been handed an opening handicap mark of 78 after his three qualifying runs, and on the balance of form he’s shown, I’d say that’s a fair mark to be starting life off in handicaps. It allows us to run him in a 0-80 which certainly helps when going through the programme looking for suitable races, and I’m very confident he’ll be up to winning races off that sort of mark.
As we know, he does enjoy a bit of cut in the ground, and he doesn’t fully let himself go on proper quick summer ground, so we’ll just keep an eye on the forecast and hope for some rain over the coming days and weeks. We’ve made a shortlist of races over the next three weeks which could be suitable for him, and the first of those which we’ve entered him for is this Friday (5th July) at Haydock. It looks like there’s plenty of rain around in the North West this week, so conditions could end up being ideal for him. There is another race at Haydock the following day on the Saturday, and also one at Sandown on the same day, so we are just going to keep a close eye on each of the races and head wherever we think he has the best chance of winning.
We’ll keep everybody updated with our plans throughout the week, but I’m sure providing the weather gods are kind to us, we’ll be seeing Phoenix Of Dreams back on the racecourse very soon.
