Pop Star extends his consistent run of form with fourth-place finish over six furlongs at Windsor | Raceday Highlights

09 Sep 2025
Pop Star continued his solid run of form at Windsor on Monday afternoon, in what was his first effort over six furlongs for the Coral Racing Club.

Following his previous race at Doncaster which came over five furlongs, trainer Alice Haynes made the call to step him up in trip to six furlongs for Monday's outing on the basis that if the ground remained soft then it could see him take a step forward. It wasn't his first time tackling the distance having run over it ten times prior, including a victory last season at Ayr, but it had been a considerable amount of time since he'd last taken it on having been campaigned solely over 5f so far since joining the Coral Racing Club.

Pop Star was very relaxed throughout the preliminaries at Windsor, going through all of the pre-race formalities without any fuss and making his way down to the start of the race in good order. Following a quick break from the stalls, our five-year-old lead the field alongside Albert Cee, and it wasn't until they hit the two furlong pole that the eventual winner, Wheels Of Fire, came through with a strong run and continued it all the way to the line to land the spoils.

Our five-year-old kept up to his task well having been headed, before being passed in the final half a furlong by Newsreader, however he did manage to keep hold of fourth place despite late pressure from Dashing Dick, who finished a short head behind in fifth.

We caught up with Alice Haynes the morning after the race to see what she made of his performance and what plans she had for him following the run:

"Pop Star has come out of his race fine this morning. He ran a solid race but annoyingly the ground did just dry up which wasn't ideal for him over that trip.

Stepping him up to six furlongs gave him a real chance to jump and travel strongly, which will do his confidence the world of good as he has just been flat out his last start. He did then battle to the line which was really encouraging to see.

There are plenty of options for him over five, five and a half, and six furlongs in the next seven weeks and we look forward to running him again!
"

Although it wasn't to be for Pop Star on the day, he ran another excellent race and gave his lucky owners for the day a great thrill, with each of them getting to take home £56 each.

We're certainly looking forward to him being back out on the track in the near future and you could be in attendance as one of his Owners for the Day! Keep an eye on the Coral Racing Club for our next Owner for the Day competition to enter and find out more.
