Ribbon Is A Dancer: Kempton review from Hugo, post-race interview with jockey Joe Leavy, plus latest entry at Newcastle

16 Dec 2024
Ribbon Is A Dancer ran a much more encouraging race at Kempton last week, although he did still finish last of the eleven runners, it was actually a vast improvement on his debut run, and he really did take a step forward from Southwell.

He was a little bit keen early on at Kempton, but Joe [Leavy] got him nicely settled, and there was no repeat of the greenness he showed first time. He showed he’d learned plenty from his debut, and we can expect him to improve again for the second run.

The plan was always to give him three runs and get him handicapped, and as he’s come out of the Kempton race well, we’ve entered him at Newcastle this Saturday.

It’s another race over seven furlongs, although he showed some good early pace last time, and I wouldn’t be afraid to drop him back in trip in the future, I thought the distance suited him, and we’ll keep him at seven for now. There is chance he might not get in the race, but if he does, the plan is to run.
