Raceday LIVE Preview

Aspire To Glory is set to continue his busy season tonight, as he takes on the seven furlong trip at Chelmsford for the second time this year. His last victory was on his first visit to the Essex track, where he dead-heated for first to land his fifth win of his career. Each of those have been at different all-weather tracks, but he is also yet to land more than one victory at a single course in his 34 race starts.

It's been the most successful year of Aspire To Glory's racing career to date, as he's racked up three wins that have come at Wolverhampton, Newcastle and the aforementioned Chelmsford. Regular partner, Kieran O'Neill, was onboard for all three of those victories and is set to take the reins again tonight as the pair look for their fourth victory together of 2025.

The going on the Polytrack at Chelmsford is set to be standard to slow, which should be positive given Kieran O'Neill's comments following Aspire To Glory's last run at Southwell, in which he said that our four-year-old struggled with the ground as it was quicker than described.

Of the nine runners in the field, Aspire To Glory is one of four previous winners that go to post. Alyara has won three times in her 52 run career, but is yet to score over this evening's distance of seven furlongs (two wins over a mile and one over 1m1f). Of the other previous winners in the field, Brother Dave arrives at Chelmsford this evening having won back-to-back races at Southwell over seven furlongs last March, but is yet to record a victory in 2025 and Arlecchino's Rex claimed his sole victory over this distance at Wolverhampton in November.

Aspire To Glory heads to Chelmsford tonight carrying top weight, as he comes in at the very top end of the 0-55 handicap bracket and although Hot Frank and My Mate Beattie are both also rated 55, they both receive five pound allowances for being three-year-olds. Alyara, despite having won more times than everyone in the field bar Aspire To Glory, carries bottom weight off his lowly mark of 46.

We caught up with Alice Haynes ahead of tonight's race at Chelmsford to see how Aspire To Glory has been doing ahead of his run

"Aspire To Glory heads to Chelmsford tonight over seven furlongs. He could have been drawn better than he has been in stall eight, but he did overcome a wide draw over course and distance previously when dead-heating.

This isn't a strong race, and his last couple of runs have suggested he's wanted to drop back to seven furlongs. Hopefully he can return to form and go well again.

Good luck and I'll hopefully see some of you later!
"

Chris Dixon, Racing TV analyst, gives us his opinion on Aspire To Glory's chances at Chelmsford this evening

Aspire To Glory’s good run of form came to an abrupt end with a disappointing effort at Southwell at the start of the month. A mile at Southwell doesn’t provide an optimum test for him, and he will be much better suited by 7f at Chelmsford, a course and distance he won over back in May. The return to a 0-55 handicap is also a positive and he holds sound claims if returning form, which I suspect he might.

Arlecchino’s Rex was unsuited by slow ground on the turf last time and his previous run at Wolverhampton offers a better guide to his chance. This will be the lowest grade of handicap he’s contested so far and he’s only a pound higher in the weights than for his sole win. A good being reapplied is a slight concern given he ran well below form on his one start sporting that headgear but he otherwise holds sound claims. Of the others, Brother Dave came back to a bit of form at Newcastle and with cheek pieces on for the first time could build on that effort.

Trainer and Jockey Statistics

Alice Haynes has had a quiet week, sending out eight runners in that time period with a couple of third place finishers, including Pop Star at Doncaster on Saturday, and a runner up at Brighton two days ago. She operates with an 11% strike-rate at Chelmsford, with 22 winners coming from her 202 runners at the course, of which two of 24 have been this year.

Kieran O'Neill scored onboard a 40/1 shot on Saturday at Doncaster, which has been his only winner in the last fortnight. The jockey has had 63 career winners at Chelmsford, with three of those arriving from 25 rides in 2025.
