Raceday LIVE Preview

Cast No Shadow heads to Wolverhampton today for his first outing away from Newcastle for the first time since September 2024, which coincidentally came at today's track. That effort was his only at Dunstall Park so far in his short career which came in a very competitive 0-85 handicap, however he was unable to make any impression that day.

Our son of Ardad was only able to feature three times last year as a result of few setbacks, and as a result of his last two efforts which came towards the end of the year, his mark has dropped to a career low of 63. The team at Manor House haven't lost any faith in our nippy sprinter however, and hope that the drop in grade will help him show his true colours.

Rewind the clock back to 2024 and our then three-year-old put in a handful of really progressive performances. First he cruised to victory by three and a quarter lengths in a novice contest at Newcastle in March, and then a few months later he landed a 0-75 handicap under a top ride from Silvestre De Sousa. As a result of those victories his mark obviously went up, and ultimately he just hasn't been able to compete at that higher level which is why he's been unable to add to his tally since.

Cast No Shadow is set to step up in trip to six furlongs today which will be only the second time in 18 careers starts. We know he breaks well from the gates, so from stall 5, the plan will most likely be  to get a quick early start and to lead the pack into the first bend. We're delighted to have Jason Hart back in the saddle who has ridden Cast No Shadow several times before, including his win in the video above.

Racing TV Analyst, Chris Dixon, gives us an exclusive preview of the 17:00 at Wolverhampton

Cast No Shadow hasn’t run up to his best for a while now but is attractively handicapped now and if a short break helps him return to form, he’ll have every chance off a mark that has dropped to 11lbs lower than for his last win. Largely campaigned at Newcastle where he’s gained both career successes, he perhaps shouldn’t be judged too harshly on his only previous start at this track and given his style of racing he should be suited to it.

With other potential pace options such as Zoulu Warrior (1), Addarella (3) and Punchbowl Flyer (4) all drawn on his inner, Cast No Shadow may be best sitting just in behind the pace rather than making it and there is a danger the leaders end up overdoing it in this race. A good pace would suit Invincible Melody, Haziym and Court Of Session but they are all on long losing runs and can’t be fully trusted despite being potentially well handicapped on best form and the likely one to beat is the aforementioned Zoulu Warrior who doesn’t have to lead, has an inside draw in 1 and has a good record when sitting in behind the pace in strongly run races.

Trainer and Jockey Statistics

Hugo Palmer has been in the winners enclosure on 8 occasions during the all-weather season, however none of those have come in the past 14 days. He's only had three runners so far in 2026, with two of them coming in Bahrain and the latest at Southwell on Sunday with How Impressive who finished second.

Jason Hart
on the other hand has ridden two winners in the past three days, both coming at Southwell. Jason has bundles of experience riding around Wolverhampton with almost 700 rides under his belt, so hopefully he can put that to good use onboard Cast No Shadow later on.
