Raceday LIVE Preview
The Club's six-year-old son of Court Cave was last seen at the beginning of December when winning and getting off the mark for the first time in determined fashion on just his second start over fences for trainer Christian Williams. He was a well supported favourite that day, so there was plenty of hope that he could get the job done as he stepped up in trip to 3m2½f, and that he did under today's jockey Brian Hughes.

We were delighted with the attitude that Cave Article showed that day given his inexperience over the bigger obstacles and also for the fact that the ground was quite tacky which will have made it difficult for most runners in the race, but particularly for him as there's the thought from home that he would prefer slightly better ground.
As a result of that victory Cave Article was raised 7lb to a mark of 81, and the form of the race has been boosted with Prince Clenni (3rd) winning next time out before finishing second off a mark of 84.
In the past few weeks Cave Article has been in great form at home as his training work has been ramped up in preparations for his next run. With the way he relished the step up in trip last time out there should hopefully be plenty more to come, especially if he takes another step forward this afternoon and continues his progression.
Cave Article will have eight rivals to contend with in today's contest, and the aforementioned former Champion Jockey Brian Hughes will once again be in the saddle which is great news given how well the pair got on last time out.

Cave Article takes the lead with a big jump at Sedgefield in December
Chris Dixon, Racing TV Analyst, provides an exclusive preview of this afternoon's race at Catterick
Cave Article hasn’t been rushed back to the track after breaking his maiden with a win at Sedgefield in early December and though there’s a few in-form horses among the opposition, he should be fairly difficult to beat. He always looked a likely type to improve when sent over fences and a staying trip and given he started of a basement mark looks sure to keep on progressing and remain ahead of the handicapper. He was always travelling kindly in a prominent pitch at Sedgefield and similar can be expected here, tactics which are often favoured at the track. Brian Hughes retains the ride and a 7lbs rise for his win last time looks shouldn’t be enough to stop him, especially with that form working out ok (the third has won since).
The Paddy Pie won on the same Sedgefield card as Cave Article and should appreciate the return to a longer trip having found a shorter distance too sharp last time so he has a chance alongside Ribete and Beat The Edge who both arrive in form. That trio are fairly well exposed, however, and Jessmae could prove a bigger danger. He's only had three goes in handicaps and his latest form behind Safe Destination, who won again next time, looks solid enough. This is a step up in trip but that could bring about some improvement. Williamconqueror returned from an absence with a fair effort at Leicester and is usually competitive at this level but is a long standing maiden.
In summary, Cave Article probably could have found a weaker race at this level than the one he’s in but he looks nicely ahead of the handicapper and is the most likely winner.
Trainer and Jockey Statistics
Christian Williams appears to be gradually getting his team back in form with two winners coming from his last 10 runners, including a big win at Windsor with Planned Paradise at 25/1. Christian doesn't often make the trip all the way to Catterick, but when he does he has a very solid record of two wins and four placed efforts from just 10 runners.
Brian Hughes has been busy in the saddle over the past fortnight with 36 rides in total, of which he's had four winners and a bunch of placed efforts, and with two of those wins coming on Tuesday at Newcastle. Brian will know Catterick like the back of his hand having ridden over 500 times there in his career, so that's a real positive for Cave Article going into today's contest.
