Raceday LIVE Preview
Cave Article made great strides in the first half of the year, securing victories at both Hereford and Southwell, with his handicap mark rising from 82 to 90 in the process. Those two wins took his record to three wins from nine efforts over fences since making his chase debut in November last year, and we're hopeful he can continue progressing as he gains more experience.
His final two outings before his recent break were slightly disappointing, but he did have a couple of excuses on those days and we think perhaps his busy campaign may have just caught up with him, which is why trainer Christian Williams decided to give him a few weeks off.

Our six-year-old son of Court Cave makes his first trip to South West track today and will become our third runner as we continue to hunt for our first winner there. Two other runners from Christian's yard will join Cave Article in action this afternoon, including Catboy in the 14:45 and Faded Fantasy in the 17:00.
Today's contest is once again over 3m2f, with Christian opting to stick with the longer distance despite Cave Article's previous two wins being over slightly shorter. The track at Newton Abbot can play into the strengths of horses who travel strongly, and that's certainly one of the key traits our gelding posseses which is a positive to take into the contest.

The ground report is currently Good and Cave Article will now face just four rivals. At the top of the market was My Girl Katie, but she has been declared a non-runner this morning. Blackacre is now the favourite for trainer Evan Williams, but he's yet to get off the mark over fences and now reverts back to the bigger obstacles after three runs over hurdles. Firefly Lane could be interesting for the Jimmy Frost team who won a conditional jockeys' handicap chase here back in September last year, but the nine-year-old hasn't been able to replicate that form since.

Chris Dixon, Racing TV analyst, previews this afternoon's contest at Newton Abbot
Cave Article has a bit to prove at present with back to back disappointing effort placing a query about his current form. On the best of his form from this season he has every chance but whether he’s capable of reproducing that level right now is open to question despite the trip and ground being perfectly suitable.
Of the others, Blackacre has dropped in the weights and could get back on track in a change of headgear following a short break.
Trainer and Jockey Statistics
Christian Williams has been quiet of late, only sending out four runners over the past couple of weeks. Over the past five seasons, Christian has enjoyed sending runners (66) to Newton Abbot with seven winners and a further 18 finishing either second or third.
Jack Tudor has been riding for both Christian and his retained trainer David Pipe over the past couple of weeks, but unfortunately he hasn't been able to feature in the winners' enclosure. That being said, Jack has plenty of experience riding at Newton Abbot which will stand him in good stead today. His record to date includes 104 rides, 15 winners and an additional 26 finishing second or third.
